AN HISPANO-MORESQUE REVIVAL COPPER-LUSTRE POTTERY BASIN
Attributed to Ulisse Cantagalli, Florence, Italy, mid to late 19th century
Of typical deep cylindrical shape, resting on a short circular foot, rising to an everted moulded rim with raised oblong ridges filled with roundels, floral designs and fish-scale pattern, painted in copper lustre against a white ground, the basin's centre with a cusped European blazon with a fleur-de-lis, surrounded by a band of stylised star roundels and petals with abstract decorations, the cavetto with similar motifs, the exterior ridged and decorated with analogous designs, the base marked with a cobalt blue rooster (maker's stamp) and the number 43 G, 32.5cm diam.
