A mid-19th century Indian colonial silver wine jug or ewer, Calcutta circa 1850 by Lattey Brothers and Co (active 1843-55)
Of baluster form raised upon four cast and applied fruiting vine bracket feet, the reeded loop handle capped with acorns and oak leaves with a bifurcated vine leave branch junction, leading to a cast fruiting vine openwork rim with textured leafy form tip. The side of the waisted neck with cast and applied bunch of grapes and vine leaves. The baluster sides with embossed decoration enwrapped with acorns and leafy oak branches, these forming a cartouche to the front later engraved to the front with a crest of a bull’s head couped, above ‘Faborita’ and the date 1880”. Gilt interior. Marked underneath LB&Co, fouled anchor, lion passant, gothic I, crown, and pellet tally mark.
