TWO KASHMIRI LACQUERED PAPIER-MÂCHÉ LIDDED BOXES
Kashmir, North India, late 19th - early 20th century

Comprising a casket-shaped lidded desk organiser, resting on a flat rectangular base, the exterior polychrome-painted, gilt and lacquered with typical Kashmiri floral triumphs with roses, hyacinths, carnations and irises, several concentric circles on the lid with golden vegetal spirals and floral scrolls, the interior painted in white and divided in four narrow document compartments, 15cm x 25.5cm x 10cm; and a rectangular lidded document box, with similar polychrome-painted and gilt floral decoration, 6.5cm x 34.5cm x 10cm.
