"Prospero’s Island is the result of work on the south side of the island: a harsh landscape most admirably evoked by her subtle use of varied browns. These forms grow bolder and are enhanced by her use of stencils. The title is significant as Tenerife is indeed the magic island where Caliban exists as well as Prospero, both characters from Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Ariel’s songs are heard between breaker and resounding breaker, celebrating that metamorphosis beloved of the surrealists: ‘Those are pearls that were his eyes…’ "
