A mid-19th century Indian colonial silver covered twin handled sugar bowl, Calcutta circa 1850 by Hamilton and Co
Of lobed inverted baluster form with an everted shaped C scroll and acanthus rim, the twin acanthus capped C scroll handles with moulded junctions. All raised upon four rocaille C scroll feet with rosette junctions. The pull off moulded lid surmounted by a detachable cast finial of a flower with leafy terrace. The body with flat chased decoration of C scrolls, rocaille and flower heads all arranged in a symmetrical pattern, each side with a vacant cartouche. Marked underneath H&Co, Elephant, Roman capital A and lotus tally mark, also stamped HAMILTON & CO JEWELLERS CALCUTTA. The lid unmarked.
