A late 19th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver bowl, Poona dated 1896
Of rounded circular form with a fold over rim, the body with embossed decoration of figures in the Burmese style reserved against foliate ‘wallpaper’, all divided by trees forming arches under arabesques. The central decoration held between bands of chased foliate scrolls and stylised acanthus leaves. Engraved around the rim with a presentation inscription reading “Calcutta Races 24th Decr 1896 International Pony Stakes, Won by Mr E. H. Gregory’s Brown Irish Pony “Esher”, winner of ten other races Value Rs. 18000”. The underside with a chased mandala.
