AN EXTREMELY FINE PART SILK ISFAHAN CARPET, CENTRAL PERSIA

The sang-de-boeuf field with meandering floral and leafy vine together with polychrome palmettes and stylised birds around concentric arabesque medallion with pendants. Spandrels similar. In an indigo border of multicoloured palmettes, rosettes and meandering floral and leafy vine between ivory and light blue similar design stripes. Outer plain stripe, approx: 10ft.5in. x 6ft.7in.(317cm. x 201cm.). Very good type and nicely drawn design with good colouir combination. This carpet has full pile of soft wool and part silk. Ends with original kilim and fringes. Selvages also original. Extremely fine weave, approx: 10 x 9 knots per sq. cm; woven on silk foundation. In general this carpet is in very good condition throughout. Attractive piece. Signature cartouche at one end.
