Opaque pigments and gold on paper, the vertical composition portraying a young Maharaja, possibly Duleep Singh (1838 - 1893), seated cross-legged on a golden floor spread against a gold-embroidered bolster, proudly holding onto his dhal (shield) and tulwar (sword), behind him four standing attendants with tall turbans, two holding white fly-whisks, the other two peacock feather fans, set within golden and black borders, 25.5cm x 20cm.
