A LARGE MULTAN BLUE AND TURQUOISE POTTERY VASE
Sindh, Pakistan, second half 19th century

Of typical globular shape, resting on a splayed circular foot, rising to a tall flared neck with a wide bulging ring just below the everted rim, the exterior painted in cobalt blue and turquoise against a white-slip ground, the decoration consisting of overlapping horizontal bands of intertwined dense floral and vegetal sprays with rosettes, foliage and stylised lotus flowers around the body and neck, narrower bands with lush palmette leaves on the neck's base and foot, the interior fully glazed in turquoise, 45.5cm high, 10cm diam.

Provenance: purchased from Marryat Antique Dealers over ten years ago and in a private London collection since.
