A SOUTH EAST ASIAN ENGRAVED BRASS LIDDED BOX
Possibly Sri Lanka or Burma (Myanmar), South East Asia, first half 20th century
Of cylindrical shape, resting on a flat base, surmounted by a dome-like lid with an arrow-shaped finial, the exterior densely engraved with several overlapping decorative bands including stylised palmettes, rosettes and foliate trellis, traditional animal figures, and pairs of stylised birds facing each other, the base and top of the lid engraved with large flowers, possibly lotus, and foliage, the box likely to have been used as a container for loose tea leaves, 11cm diam. and 18.8cm high.
