AFTER THE ANTIQUE: AN EARLY 19TH CENTURY BRONZE FIGURE OF THE MATTEI CERES the standing figure holding ears of corn in her left hand, on a spreading oval plinth, dark brown patination, 34cm high The Mattei Ceres was produced by an unknown Roman sculpture circa 300 BC-200 BC. The original marble figure was found on the Roman estates of the Mattei family and was purchased by Pope Clementine in 1770.
