A mid-19th century Indian colonial silver cigar or cigarillo case, Calcutta circa 1840 by Pittar and Co (active 1825-48)
Of rectangular form with rounded edges, with engraved decoration of foliage against a striated ground, the edges to the sides with leaves, the top with a circular cartouche in an engine turned surround flanked by thistle. The pull off lid with a vacant erased cartouche to each side. Marked to the front base section with P&Co, lion passant and a capital Roman A.
