AN ANTIQUE AFSHAR RUG, SOUTH-WEST PERSIA

The field with overall rust, blue, indigo and green large serrated lozenge lattice containing bold multicoloured palmettes and various angular floral motifs. Unusual rust border of double stepped half arrowhead panels and small x-motif rosettes between mendering vine and barber-pole stripes, approx; 6ft.3in. x 5ft.3in.(191cm. x 160cm.) Very good type and well drawn design, Colours are well blended. This rug has slight wear to the pile, down to knot collar in places, showing dot like warps. One or two very small old repairs and touches of dot like slight discolouration. Ends with short kilim and fringes. Selvages original. Despite imperfections this rug is in good usable condition. Good square size. Woven on wool foundation. Good furnishing piece.
