***George Dunton Widener (1861- 1912) was an American businessman who was travelling on the Titanic with his wife and son. Once the ship struck the iceberg, he managed to place his wife and her maid in a lifeboat. The women were then rescued by the steamship R.N.S. Carpathia, but Widener and his son perished on the Titanic.
