the twin light candelabra surmouted by diamond cut finials over two tiers of short branches hung with cut glass prismatic drops and arrow headed lustres, the double baluster stems with conforming decoration, each issuing a pair of gilt bronze, acanthus wrapped branches terminating in scallop edged drip pans and urn shaped nozzles, also hung with cut glass beaded and lustre drops, each raised on a square ormolu plinth base cast with lambrequin decoration to the sides and oval reliefs of dancing putti to the front and back, hung with trailing floral garlands, both signed 'F. BARBEDIENNE PARIS', raised on four reeded, pillar feet,

Provenance: Prestigious Middle Eastern Private Collection. Purchased from Le Louvre des Antiquaires, Elise Deutsch Antiquaires, Palais Royale, Paris, as by Baccarat and Barbedienne, copy of invoice available.

The quality and cut of the glass indicate that it was produced by the prestigious French maker Baccarat. Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-92) is considered to be one of the finest of the Parisian bronziers producing bronze decorative arts, clocks and sculpture in the second half of the 19th century.
