A GREEK WHITE METAL REPOUSSÉ BIBLE HOLDER
Post-Ottoman Greece, mid to late 19th century
Of square shape, the front embossed with a depiction of St. George on his steed slaying the dragon, an identifying inscription in Greek characters at the top, the background ring-punched, the back engraved with a central Greek cross enhanced with a rosette in the middle and lush foliage on each arm of the cross, another inscription in Greek characters at the top and bottom, fitted with a plain chainlet and decorated with several rosette-shaped hanging pendants, the body 6.5cm x 7.5cm.
