An early 20th century Chinese export silver butter dish on stand, Shanghai circa 1920, marked Shun, retailed by Luen Wo
Republic period. Of oval form with a pull off domed lid surmounted by a figure of a cow, the stand of oval form raised upon four compressed fluted ‘gourd’ type feet. The body with embossed and pierced decoration of chrysanthemums and a vacant circular cartouche, the lid with chased and embossed decoration of the same against a matted ground. The stand with a cast and pierced edge of chrysanthemums with a bamboo modelled rim, the centre with a flat chased chrysanthemum. The dish with a removable frosted clear glass liner. Marked underneath dish and stand with artisan mark 㫪 (SHUN), and retailer’s mark LUENWO.
