A PINK LUSTREWARE COMMEMORATIVE BOWL WITH LORD BYRON'S POEM 'THE SAILOR’S TEAR' Leeds and Sunderland, England, c. 1820 Of typical bulbous shape, on short rounded foot, painted in white, decorated with pink metallic glaze and black transfer print decoration showing views of Tynemouth Haven and Young Cottage, accompanied by verses from Lord Byron's poem 'The Tear, The Man, doom'd to sail/ With the blast of the gale/ Through billows Atlantic to steer/ As he bends o'er the wave/ Which may soon be his grave/ Remembers his home with a tear. Byron', the interior white and decorated with pink bands around the rim and foot, 8cm high.
