A late 19th / early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver bowl, Lucknow circa 1900

Raj period. Of compressed circular form with convex sides. The body with embossed decoration in hunting pattern, with depictions of three hunters in an elephant with a houdah, shooting at a lioness wrapped in the elephants trunk, a rider on horseback spearing a lion, two hunters upon a caparisoned elephant shooting at a lioness, two hunters shooting at a lioness leaping over an antelope, and two hunters spearing a wild dog. All below a trailing foliate boarder and above a band of stylised acanthus leaves. The underside chased with a circular motif of an elephant with its trunk wrapped around a tree.
