A POLYCHROME-PAINTED POTTERY CHARGER FEATURING A FEMALE MUSICIAN AND DANCER
Qajar Iran, mid to late 19th century

Of typical shallow rounded shape, resting on a short straight foot and painted in cobalt blue, manganese purple, copper green, yellow and black all set against a white ground, in the centre a female drummer playing her instrument and joined by another lady dancing and whisking her scarf following the tempo, in the background a town set within a hilly-landscape, the composition encased within a vegetal band of split palmettes against cobalt blue ground, the back glazed in plain white, 32.5cm diam.
