A THEODORE DECK IZNIK-STYLE POTTERY JUG
Paris, France, 19th century
Of bulbous shape, resting on a short flared foot, with an S-shaped handle connecting the body to the gently everted neck with circular rim, underglaze-painted in cobalt blue, green, purple, red and turquoise with black outlines all on a white ground, the decoration consisting of standard Iznik pottery motifs such as hatayi flowers in cusped diamond-shaped cartouches alternating with flourishing stems of carnations and rosettes on the body, and a band of straight carnation stems and rosettes underneath cusped arches on the neck, the underside of the foot marked in iron red TH.DECK, 19cm high.
