A Victorian Aesthetic Movement walnut and ebonised music cabinet

A Victorian Aesthetic Movement walnut and ebonised music cabinet, with a gallery back, the single door with a painted figural frieze, depicting a musician and an audience of ladies and creatures, over a glazed door, enclosing five shelves with blue velour lining, raised on ring turned feet, 103cm high x 58cm wide x 40cm deep

The cabinet was previously owned by Thea Fordham (1897 -1930) who played the viola and was the daughter of Montague Edward Fordham (1864-1948). There are extracts from Thea’s letters exchanged with David Garnett in Sarah Knights’ biography published in 2015 (Bloomsbury’s Outsider.) Thea’s brother said David (known as Bunny) proposed to her - though she rejected him. The cabinet has been passed down through the family since.
