A William and Mary late 17th century unmarked silver recusant cross, circa 1690

Engraved with decoration of a flowers, one side with the initials M A in Roman script between a heart with a crown above, the obverse with a Christogram IHS above a cross. Ring attachment with subsidiary ring.

Length (of body) – 4 cm / 1.55 inches

Weight – 5 grams / 0.16 ozt

The use of engraved tulips and flowers is especially found on nutmeg graters and patch boxes, often with makers marks, that have long been ascribed to the 1690’s.
