A George III sterling silver salver, London 1805 by John Mewburn (reg. 2nd Oct 1793)
Of circular form with cavetto edge and gadrooned rim, raised on three gadrooned splay feet. The field centered with an impaled coat of arms surmounted by engraved crest of a leg in armour couped at the calf and spurred with motto above Dulce Periculum, all reserved in a flat chased anthemion Vitruvian scroll and oak leaf circular cartouche. Fully marked to the reverse.

The arms are for McCall impaling another
John Mewburn was apprenticed to John Crouch 5th Feb 1777. Working from Hare Court, Aldersgate Street, then at Abingdon Row, Goswell Road. He was a specialist maker of salvers and trays.
