A pair of George II sterling silver candlesticks, London 1744/1745 by John Cafe

The bases of shaped and incurved square form with splayed shell corners, the central column with circular knops and a shaped square knop below a plain capital. Each with a removable shaped square sconce with shell corners. Each engraved to the bases with an impaled coat of arms in an asymmetrical C scroll cartouche flanked by reeds, the sconces engraved with a crest of a falcon rising. Engraved with a scratch weight underneath 38 Oz = 16 Pr to one stick. Each fully marked underneath, one for each date letter, the capitals and sconces with lion passant and maker’s mark. (2)
