A scrapbook album containing a collection of albumen prints (approx. 100), in various sizes 7 x5.2cm (smallest) to 12.4 x15.4cm (largest); mostly related to the Sampson family members, particularly to Charles J. Sampson. The album contains many family portraits, a view of Ashley Clinton Manor, a fishing scene by an English shore, and a view of the Niagara Falls dated 1864; many with manuscript captions. Notably, the album comprises portraits of the British Royal Family, including Queen Victoria, Prince Albert, Prince and Princess of Wales, Albert and Alexandra; together with a group portrait depicting the Queen Victoria with her family, after John Jabez Edwin Mayall (c.1860s.); in this image: Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany; Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha; Prince Albert, Duke of Edinburgh; Princess Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse; Prince Arthur, First Duke of Connaught and Strathearn; Beatrice of Battenberg, fifth and youngest daughter of Queen Victoria; King Edward; Princess Helena Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein, third daughter of Queen Victoria; Princess Louise Caroline Alberta, Duchess of Argyll; Victoria, Empress of Germany and Queen of Prussia, Consort of Frederick III, German Emperor, King of Prussia; daughter of Queen Victoria.
Interestingly, in the following pages, portraits of notable American and European politicians are depicted, such as Giuseppe Garibaldi, Victor Emmanuel II King of Italy, Louis & Armand Simonis, Jefferson Davis; all the pages are decorated with rich hand-coloured drawings.
