TWO SAFAVID CUERDA SECA ARCHITECTURAL POTTERY TILES
Safavid Iran, 17th - 18th century

Each of square shape and painted in brown, blue, green, yellow, manganese purple and black all against white ground, possibly coming from the same architectural panel, one featuring the foot and leg of a person, their gown decorated with rosettes stems, at their feet, woody stems of rosettes and saz leaves, 23cm x 23.1cm; and the other tile with a vertical border of vegetal scrollwork, flanked by solid polychrome rulings, to the right, a tall rosette stem and the edge of a cobalt blue gown adorned with yellow saz leaves with manganese purple centres, 23cm x 23cm.

Provenance: Property from an old French estate, part of the grandfather's inheritance since 1981.
