When one thinks of Rolex watches, no timepiece is more iconic and recognisable than the famous Rolex Daytona, especially since the Phillips 2017 sale when the Paul Newman's Daytona sold for $17.8 Million USD. However, regardless of what most people believe, that model was not the first Rolex Chronograph. The tradition started years before during the first half of the 1950s with what could be called 'the grandfather of the Daytona', the Rolex Oyster Chronograph. Our Rolex has the iconic reference 6034, manufactured in 1953 and born in the depths of the racing circuits. Racing drivers were wearing this beautiful watch to check the laps well before the iconic Daytona was created. The inclusion of a coloured tachymeter and the telemetre on the dial made it possible to measure both the speed and the distance respectively. The good reputation of Rolex for producing quality sport watches helped the Rolex Chronograph to be the optimal choice for many top drivers like LeRoy Neumayer that broke the land speed record at 233 miles per hour in 1953 wearing the Rolex Chronograph reference 6034, consolidating the strong link between Rolex and the automotive racing world.

Estimated at £30,000 - £40,000
