A George III sterling silver sugar basket, Sheffield 1794 by M F & Co, possibly Mark Furniss & C0
Of navette oval form upon an oval pedestal foot with a reeded edge. The body with a pierced section band of rosettes and stylised form heightened with bright cut engraving. The side with a flat chased vacant elliptical cartouche within a draped robe cartouche. Fitted with a removable blue glass liner. Fully marked to the side.
Length – 13.5 cm / 5.25 inches
Weight – 188 grams / 6.04 ozt
This mark, along with an earlier version is not shown in the Sheffield Register, but a similar mark registered Dec 1810 by Furniss, Poles & Turner (Mark Furniss & Co), Plate Workers, Furnival Street, Sheffield.
