AN EGYPTIAN SERPENTINE FIGURE OF BES Late Period, Circa 664 - 332 B.C. The dwarf-god depicted naturalistically, in a squatting position, with a pot-belly and his hands resting on his hips, he wears a tall plumed headdress, the individual feathers incised, a bronze tang protruding from the top, the expressive face with a furrowed brow, broad nose, prominent ears and hairy beard, 11.6cm high.  Provenance: European Private Collection, acquired in the 1960s; Ex Sotheby's, New York, 7 December 2001, lot 236; Ex Pierre Berge 1 December 2007, lot 442; Private collection of a lady, Rome acquired prior to 2009.
