Here unto is ioyned also a booke of the bath of Baeth in England, and of the vertues of the same with diuerse other bathes, moste holsom and effectuall, both in Almanye and in England set furth by William Turner Doctor in Physick. Lacking blank? Before ‘A Booke of the natures and properties as well of the bathes in England…’ [bound with] Brunschwig (Hieronymus) A most excellent and perfect homish apothecarye... Translated out of the Almaine speche into English by John Hollybush. Cologne: Arnold Birckman, 1561. L2 damaged to fore-edge and bottom page margins not affecting text, lacking b 2-5, f 1-6 creased, bound in facsimile 15th century full blind-stamped dark brown calf, [STC 24367]. sm. *** William Turner – A controversial figure and know for a fiery temper, together with being a non-conformist with religious views, .He can be credited with bringing new theories of botany to England and with refuting some of the prevailing superstitions regarding the medicinal properties of some plants. "It was for these reasons that this tumultuous personality is usually referred to as the Father of English Botany" (Hunt).
