*** William Turner – A controversial figure and know for a fiery temper, together with being a non-conformist with religious views, .He can be credited with bringing new theories of botany to England and with refuting some of the prevailing superstitions regarding the medicinal properties of some plants. "It was for these reasons that this tumultuous personality is usually referred to as the Father of English Botany" (Hunt).
