A CHINESE 'MIAOQI' POLYCHROME LACQUER COSMETIC BOX AND COVER

Probably Ming Dynasty

The cylindrical body painted in green, black and red lacquer and gilt with panels of figurative scenes from folklore and literature as well as an elephant beneath a band of cloud scrolls, the convex cover with a maiden carrying two buckets, the edges with cranes in flight among stylised clouds, all against a red lacquer ground sprinkled with gold dust,

20cm high, 20.7cm diameter (2)
