A SILVER-GILT MOUNTED MEERSCHAUM PIPE WITH A CROWNED EAGLE
Possibly Vienna, Austria or Germany, first half 19th century
The pipe carved to the front with a crowned eagle amongst flags reminiscent of Austrian and German crests, the George IV sterling silver-gilt mounts with chased decoration of foliate scrolls, centered with a medallion of a horse and rider, marked London 1825 by Edward Witham, together with horn accessories and Old Sheffield Plate canister, housed in a blue velvet-lined Rosewood travelling box with campaign-style brass mounts, the case 38cm wide.
