BEARS OF BERNE' A RARE SWISS CARVED SOFT WOOD CHESS SET; the animals carved in novelty poses including Kings with crowns holding opposing wood sceptres, the Queens crowned holding a bear cub, Bishops as dancing pairs, Knights with cubs on their backs, Rooks as standing bears on castellated turrets, the Pawns standing holding muskets, 7cms high; the King, 9cms high, all within a fitted box with pull out drawer and chequered top, the sides with relief carved floral and foliate decoration.
