A LARGE IZNIK POTTERY DISH WITH FLORAL DECORATION
Ottoman Turkey, second half 16th century
Of shallow rounded shape, resting on a short circular foot, rising to a gently everted rim, painted in bole red in relief, cobalt blue and copper green in black outlines against a white ground, the interior decorated with a central floral bouquet with tulips, plum blossoms, hyacinths and roses stemming from a tuft of green grass, in the centre a blue saz leaf with red buttons crossing the composition, around the rim a band of rosettes interspersed with pairs of blue tulips, the exterior with green spiraling roundels against plain white ground, 29.5cm diam.
