Scribar. Sig. Reg.’ to title, occasional marginalia, contemporary vellum over boards, early title inked to spine, central gilt armorial device embossed on covers, yapped edges, soiled, preserved in a modern marbled paper slipcase, [Printing and the Mind of Man 118; Thompson, History of Historical Writing, pp.545-48; Gamba 2080], folio, London, John Bill, 1619. ***Rare first edition of Sarpi’s most important work, written between 1608 and 1618 and published by the author with the pseudonym ‘Pietro Soave Polano’.
