A GRISAILLE DRAWING OF A RAMPAGING ELEPHANT
Possibly Kota, Rajasthan, North-Western India, late 19th - early 20th century
Ink, pencil, opaque pigments and white wash on wove paper, the vertical composition depicting a mahout holding an ankus (elephant goad) on top of a rampaging elephant, another man squatted on the branch of the tree on the left-hand side of the composition, possibly taking refuge from the elephant's charge, set within concentric black, gold and red rules, mounted, glazed and framed, 39cm x 30.5cm including the frame.
