A good Victorian sterling silver claret or wine drinking set, London 1877 by Elkington and Co

Comprising a large flagon or ewer, and a set of six beakers. The beakers of tapering cylindrical form with a bulbous lower section upon a circular foot, each with a cast and applied grotesque mask to either side adjoined by a beaded band. The flagon of similar form with an arabesque scroll clad C scroll handle leading to a centrally domed hinged lid surmounted by a detachable figure of a lion rampant holding a flagstaff (pennant detached but present). The body finely embossed with scenes of medieval knights on horseback in battle, perhaps the Battle of Agincourt, repeated to each of the beakers with subtle difference to each one. The lower section with chased decoration of arabesques and scrolls forming a cartouche engraved to one side and to two of the beakers with a crest of a stag’s head erased above the motto Fide Sed Qui Vide. Gilt interiors. Each fully marked. (7)
