A pair of George II sterling silver sauceboats, London 1748 by George Hunter (reg. 7th June 1748)

Each of shaped oval bellied form with ridged sides, the shaped rim leading to an everted lip opposite a double C scroll handle with acanthus scroll terminal. All raised on three scroll and pad feet with shell junctions. Each engraved to the side with a contemporary coat of arms within a C scroll and rocaille cartouche. Each fully marked underneath, also with scratch weights and numbers to underside of feet, one: ‘17’ and ‘49’ and ‘1.0’ (2)

Length – 18 cm / 7.25 inches

Weight – 696 grams / 22.38 ozt

Hunter working from Noble street until 26th Sep 1752 when he moved to Silver street.
