Ientacula novi testamenti, title printed in black and red within ornamental woodcut border enclosing the Cardinal’s arms and portrait, as well as Giunta’s device [Silvestre 591], another version of the printer’s mark [Baudrier no. 1] at end, double column, ornaments, a1 almost detached, lacking original final blank f., slight, intermittent browning, occasional spotting, faint library stamp to title, later vellum, ink inscriptions on upper board (‘il dí 21?: Maggio…), gilt title to spine, soiled, slight worming, one corner rubbed, [Baudrier lists only 1533 edition; not in Adams], 8vo, Jacopo Giunta & Macé Bonhomme, Lyon, 1537.

*** Reprinted from the Florentine edition of 1525, often bound in ‘Summula Caietana. Perquam docta resoluta ac compendiosa de peccatis summula nuperrime castigate’. Thomas de Vio, usually called Caietano after his birthplace Gaeta, played an important role in the early days of the Reformation. He was the papal legate at the Diet of Augsburg in 1518 to whom the task of examining Luther’s teachings was entrusted.
