A collection of papers containing the original handwritten and typed reports of the 1929-1939 archaeological excavations at Hermopolis, including a detailed inventory of artefacts, photographs, and administrative correspondence between the Director of the Hildesheim expedition to el-Ashmunein, Dr. Gunther Roeder, and Henri Gauthier, General Director of Antiquities of the Pelizaeus Museum, Hildesheim. Reports written in English, French and German, detailing the diggings in the religious district, including a temple of the Middle Kingdom (c.2000 B.C) and the Ptolemaic temple to Thoth; administrative correspondence in French, mostly relating to the transport of the antiquities from Egypt to the museum in Hildesheim. Leaves slightly yellowed and some tears to edges.
