A TANJORE SILVER-OVERLAID COPPER VASE
Thanjavur (Tanjore), Tamil Nadu, South India, late 19th - early 20th century

Of elongated oval shape, resting on a ringed stem on a splayed circular foot, with a reinforced circular rim, the exterior clad in silver-overlaid decoration including a wide band with some of Lord Vishnu's avataras (Narasimha, Varaha, Matsya, and Rama) interspersed with stylised columns with thick foliage, and several overlapping horizontal decorative bands with leaves, palmettes and rosettes, 19cm high.
