AN ANTIQUE SHIRVAN KELLEH, EAST CAUCASUS

The charcoal-black field with various hooked and serrated panels together with small rosettes around five multiple hooked and linked lozenge medallions, each with hooked and floral panel centrepiece. In an ivory border of polychrome serrrated leaves between rust and charcoal-black rosette stripes. Outer narrow floral stripes, approx; 8ft.6in. x 4ft.1in.(259cm. x 124cm.) Good type and well drawn design. Good colour combination, bold appearance. This rug has slightly corroded black, down to knot collar and below. The top pile has even wear. Selvages rebound with small fraying on cord in one or two places. Ends with original kilim, secured. Date in one corner, AH 1335 (1916 AD). In general thi rug is in fair usable conditon. Despite imperfections, still retains the elegnce.
