A MAMLUK BRASS BOWL Egypt or Syria, 15th century Of circular form, on plain base, the exterior finely incised with intertwined cartouches filled with thuluth calligraphy and lush split palmettes, four roundels filled with typical Y-shaped motif and four roundels filled with stylised vegetal and floral motifs, a continuous calligraphic band running around the area below the rim, the script thuluth against a hatched ground, lattice work bands on top and bottom, polished at a later stage, 22cm diam.
