Colonel Lloyd was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1885, and worked in sea defence in Hong Kong. Following his time serving abroad, Lloyd became one of the chief organisers of the 1904 Gordon Bennett Elimination races on the Isle of Man, and shortly thereafter became the Clerk of Brooklands Track, going on to become the Manager of Brooklands Racing Club. Lloyd was also instrumental in drawing up the first record regulations used by the RAC and BARC as Clerk of the Course at Brooklands.

This album presents an interesting visual record of Lloyd's career in both the military and in the field of motorsport, with images dating from 1892-1910 by various photographers (includinng Skeen & Co. and L Fiorillo), many with handwritten captions noting dates and subjects. The album begins with images from Lloyd's travels in Thailand, c.1892, including a view of the King of Siam, and continues with views of Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Egypt and notably Hong Kong, depicting the unveiling of Queen Victoria's Statue on Jubilee Day 1897.The album then moves into views of motorsport racing c.1904, including the Gordon Bennett Elimination Races on the Isle of Man, followed by family snapshots and formal portraits of members of the Royal Engineers. Oblong folio measuring 370 x 280mm in blue morocco; boards present but detached from binding, block split and spine lacking, heavily rubbed, heavy foxing throughout.
