The rectangular fragment of figured silk finely brocaded in polychrome silks and gold thread wound around a silk core, with vertical bands containing repeating rows of a parrot on a flowering tree beneath an open rose, the bands separated by vertical floral friezes against a silver ground, the left-hand selvedge present, laid on cream silk, mounted on board, 29cm x 35cm, 39.5cm x 45.3cm including the mount.
Provenance: by repute purchased at auction, Sotheby’s London, in 1998.
