Possibly France and Qajar Iran, late 19th - 20th century
Comprising a rectangular sewing box, lacquered, polychrome-painted and heightened in gold, the hinged lid decorated with a cusped cartouche filled with a Persianised terrace scene, two lovers entertained by a harpist, the landscape inspired by Jalayrid miniatures, the corners with stylised vegetal tendrils and a lotus flower head in the middle, the underside with a Westernised arabesque medallion, the sewing kit parcel gilt, the padding stamped in gold with a crown and the inscription 'DREYFOUS', the rest faded,12.5cm x 8.5cm; and a Qajar lacquered pocket mirror with floral motifs on both sides, 8cm long.
