A WATERCOLOUR PORTRAIT OF SULTAN ABDUL HAMID II Possibly Turkey, attributed to Fausto Zonaro's work, 19th century  Opaque pigments on paper, the vertical composition depicting the three-quarter profile of Sultan Abdul Hamid II (1842 - 1918), wearing the typical red fez hat, the blue military jacket and a white shirt with a European-inspired military star decoration, the painting style clearly influenced by Western military portraits, mounted, glazed and encased within an Hispano-Moresque ivory and coloured woods-inlaid frame, decorated with typical geometric star motifs, grid patterns and bands of fretwork, 82.5cm x 49.5cm including the frame.  This item may require Export or CITES licences in order to leave the UK or the European Union. It is the buyer's responsibility to ensure that lots have the relevant licences before shipping.
