A CHINESE SOAPSTONE FIGURE OF LIUHAI.

Qing Dynasty, 18th / 19th Century.

Standing, resting his right foot on a rockwork, holding three conjoined coins with both hands, a small double-gourd fastened to his waist, his cheerful face inset with a coral bead between eyebrows, bejewelled with earrings, necklace and bracelets, wearing long robes incised with floral roundels and geometric patterns bordered by cloud and leiwen bands, with a straw hat hanging at the back of his head over a fur cape covering his shoulders, details picked out in gilt and polychrome paint, all resting on an irregularly shaped stand, 17cm H.
