AN OTTOMAN SILVER SMOKING PIPE WITH A HARDSTONE-SET MOUTHPIECE
Ottoman Turkey or Provinces, mid to late 19th century

Of typical shape with a long wooden cane and a composite mouthpiece decorated with a number of coloured hardstones and amber, the V-shaped silver smoke chamber engraved with floral motifs, the burner surmounted by a pierced domed lid with silver chainlets on each side and rounded coral beads, both the lid and burner stamped on the rim with two sah marks, 28cm long and 13cm at its widest point.
